Fashion Psychology: What you Wear Changes How you Feel

Updated: Mar 26

When you LOOK good, you FEEL good.

This is one of the core principles in Fashion Psychology and the Psychology of Clothing.

Science says that the clothes we wear affect our behaviour, attitudes, personality, mood, confidence, and even the way we interact with others.

Think of your favourite pair of jeans; how do you feel when you wear them? Attractive...sexy...spring in your step...

Now think about those jeans that kinda, sorta, don't fit properly and you spend the whole day pulling them up, feeling self-conscious about how they look, and avoiding being seen by anyone but your cat.

When your clothes are not only the best representation of you, but they are also clothes that fit and look great on you, you feel great. You feel confident. You feel powerful. You want to be centre of attention. You like being seen. You have more enjoyable engagements with others.

I see it time and time again; a change in your wardrobe makes a HUGE difference to the quality of your life.

Here's what I advise:

1. OUT WITH THE OLD

If looking good makes you feel good why would you wear anything that isn't going to make you feel good? Take a moment to go through your wardrobe and get rid of the pieces that you feel you don't look amazing in.

2. DON'T SETTLE

When you go shopping only buy things that you really love, rather than the 'that will do'. This will ensure your wardrobe stays full of clothes you actually look great in, therefore feel great.

3. LESS IS MORE

It's better to have a smaller wardrobe of pieces you love and that compliment each other, rather than lots of clothes that never get worn and take up wardrobe space (btw a cluttered wardrobe leads to a cluttered mind and extra stress in the mornings). 20 items you love vs. 50 items you don't feel great in, wins.

Let me know in the comments if this was helpful!

P.S If you've been trying to build a wardrobe of things that make you feel amazing but you either don't have the time, or you just don't know how I'd love to help. You can contact me here.

I adore helping women reinvigorate their personal style so they can become supremely confident and perform at their highest potential.

A well dressed woman has ZERO limits.
